Ti Rakau OMS (TROMS) is a specialist oral surgery practice located in the Pakuranga Medical Centre, ideally situated for the South and East Auckland population. The building itself is a fully integrated facility with Medical GP practice, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Radiology, Dentist and more.
We specialise in all forms of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery including wisdom teeth, difficult extraction, dental implants (including bone grafts and sinus lifts), temporomandibular joint disorders, and all forms of oral and dental pathology.
Ti Rakau OMS also incorporates the latest technology for diagnosis and management of conditions including cone beam CT scan for high definition 3D imaging. Surgical services are provided under high quality intravenous sedation on site, or general anaesthetic facilities through Ormiston Hospital (East Auckland) and Quay Park Surgical Centre (Auckland Central

Mr Rakesh Jattan
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon

Rakesh is a fully qualified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, completing his degree in Dentistry in 2000. Following this, he worked as a dental house surgeon in Wellington before spending 2 years in Far North Queensland as part of the itinerant dental service with the Royal Flying Doctors (RFDS). This involved providing dental services to remote Aboriginal communities. He returned to Dunedin to complete his Medicine and Masters at the University of Otago. He then completed another 4 years of Advanced Surgical Training through the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS) and then undertook a further 3 years of post-Fellowship training in the United Kingdom at the prestigious Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, specialising in orthognathic surgery and the treatment of head and neck cancers (including reconstruction). He returned to NZ and set up Ti Rakau OMS to provide a complete service in all forms of oral, maxillofacial and dentoalveolar surgery.
Rakesh has held previous positions as a Consultant surgeon at the Auckland (ADHB) and Counties Manukau (CMDHB) District Health Boards, involved in the treatment of acute facial trauma, dentofacial infection, dentoalveolar pathology, TMJ and orthognathic surgery. Past Committee roles have included Supervisor of Training (SoT), Regional Surgical Committee (RSC) and NZ Councillor of ANZAOMS. Rakesh has also been significantly involved in non-profit organisations such as Pasifika Dental Association and Smiles of the Pacific.

Jamie is a New Zealand trained specialist Oral & Maxillofacial surgeon, who practices the full general scope of the specialty. He is dual qualified – holding both a dental degree from the University of Otago and a medical degree from the University of Melbourne. In addition to being a part of the team at TROMS, he holds public consultant appointments at Middlemore, Greenlane and Auckland City hospitals, where he is also the supervisor of training to the next generation of surgeons. Jamie also sits on the Australasian ANZAOMS council as a next generation director.
Originally from Tauranga, Jamie obtained his dental degree in 2008, following which he spent three years working as a dentist in both the public and private sectors across Auckland and Queensland.
After obtaining his medical degree in 2015, Jamie worked for several years as a doctor at various hospitals around Victoria gaining experience in areas such as orthopaedic, colorectal, trauma and neurosurgery. Following this, he worked for a year as an Oral & Maxillofacial surgery registrar at the Royal Perth, Fiona Stanley, and Perth children’s hospitals in Western Australia.
Jamie returned to New Zealand in 2019 to complete advanced surgical training at Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, and Invercargill hospitals.
Outside of work, Jamie enjoys spending time with his wife Anna, sons Oliver and Leonard, and their family and friends. He is passionate about travelling, being out on the water and scuba diving.
